The city of Guwahati is the capital of Assam. It is also the largest metropolitan area in North-Eastern India. It is said to be the ‘gateway’ to the North East region. The city is situated on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra river, a trans-boundary river and one of the major rivers of Asia. Guwahati is an important commercial and educational center in North-Eastern India and is the third fastest growing city in the country.

Full of a wide variety of ethnies and religions, this city is a perfect place of study, stimulating both artists and researchers alike. The residency has been developed outside of art institution frameworks and is based upon the investigation of the city of Guwahati, its surrounding area and its cultural peculiarities.

The Guwahati Research Program brings young artists based in Italy to Guwahati where they are encouraged to gain an understanding of the local context and then develop on-site projects and cultural observations based on multi year in depth exploration.

So far the project has been self financed.
